As many of you suggested the other day when I asked what I should fix first on my car, I’m looking to buy new pads, and maybe new rotors as well. I want something a little more aggressive than the average brake pads, but I’m not looking for a racing setup or anything. Ceramic pads are preferred too, because less dust. What do you use, and what car do you use them on?

Dimpled EBCs and ceramic akebonos for no reason at all.

I use centric stuff on my cars. They work well enough.

I’ve done about 2.5 track days with my Golf on completely stock pads and rotors. There really wasn’t much or any brake fade, although the pads were a little scorched on the inside. If I decide to do more events, I’m going to put on some EBC Yellowstuff pads, and maybe slotted rotors, but if not I’ll save those upgraded pads for my next car.

Centric Premium High Carbon rotors with either Hawk HPS 5.0 pads or StopTech Street pads for when I redo my M3.

Haven’t replaced the stock brakes yet on my gti, but on my mini I put on a set of brembo rotors and hawk pads. Outstanding.

My preferred choice are Hawk HPS pads on slotted iron rotors.
What I have now are generic “performance metallic” pads from PerformanceBrakes.com on slotted iron rotors for the LT4 and on slotted+dimpled rotors for the ZR-1.

StopTech street performance pads matched with AutoZone (Centric?) rotors work great for me. Lots of dust, but I don’t care since they work so damn good. I also have Pilot Super Sports that lend a solid hand with stopping as well.

EBC Green Stuff and OEM (or equivalent) rotors. The reason for the non-slotted rotors is that the slotting “cools” the rotors by essentially shaving your pads under braking. Which means that you chew through pads at a ridiculous rate for no appreciable gain. And if you want more stopping, go with yellow stuff (or the equivalent Hawk pad if you prefer — they both seem like they work well enough).

Hawk, akebono, EBC are all pretty good. Personally, I only run factory stuff now because my cars are super finicky and are never going to see a track. The main piece of advice I have is to avoid Centric, I’ve used them lots of times on lots of cars and they always seen to end up getting very squeaky within a few months.
